SATU LAUREL 

Satu Laurel (b. 1983) is an Finnish artist whose paintings invites to explore

fantastical sceneries and wild, colorful nature.

Ideal and material worlds overlap in her art.

After graduating (BA, London 2007 and MA, Finland 2011) she has exhibited her

works in Finland and internationally. She was chosen to be one of the Rising Stars

2024 in Saatchi.art gallery. Her paintings are a part of the numerous private and

public collections.

In her latest works she engages with romantic landscape painting tradition and

uses abstract paint strokes to create compositions of colors. The materiality of a

paint and artists strong presence is visible in the strokes. In her art she explores the

interplay between visible and invisible, presence and absence, ideals and material.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My paintings are dreamscapes with a playful twist. Painting to me is a way to have adventures of mind. In my works I combine expressive and traditional techniques with meaningful, magical details. Lately I have been interested interplay between visible and invisible, presence and absence, ideals and material.
