EKATERINA BELOVA

 

Ekaterina Belova is a visual artist born in Saint Petersburg and based in Basel, Switzerland. She graduated from the Repin Academy of Fine Arts in 2021, specialising in painting. Her interdisciplinary practice encompasses painting, sculpture, installation, and process-based work, focusing on interconnectedness, migration, memory, non-linear time, and shifting boundaries between human, natural, and social forms.  

 

Her solo exhibition “Grenzen” was presented at Wabe in Basel in 2023. Selected group exhibitions include “New Time 2.0” at the New Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, “Life after Life” at Manege Central Exhibition Hall in Saint Petersburg, and “DDR/USSR. Two-Faced Janus” at the Research Museum of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 2025, she was a finalist for the CREA Venice Art Prize and the ECCO Eco Award.  

 

ARTIST STATEMENT

 

Interconnectedness lies at the centre of my artistic practice. Through states of transition, I explore not only the boundaries between the human, nature, and other forms of existence, but also the possibility of perceiving them as parts of an interconnected whole.

 

I approach the boundary as a space of contact and mutual transformation, where what is usually perceived as separate reveals its interdependence. Time in my work is non-linear: past, present, and possible futures overlap, bringing personal and collective memory into relation with new mythologies.  

 

Working across painting, sculpture, installation, and process-based practices, I combine and deliberately bring into tension materials with different properties and histories, so that interaction takes place not only at the level of representation, but within the material structure of the work itself.
