NIKŠA SUZIĆ
Belgrade-based sculptor Nikša Suzić works primarily with plaster, wood, metal, concrete and stone, developing sculptural forms that translate psychological pressure, bodily memory and uncertainty into physical presence. Rather than illustrating specific emotional states, his practice focuses on experiences that are difficult to name but are nevertheless registered through the body.
His works often bring apparently soft, organic forms into contact with rigid structures, producing a tension between vulnerability and control, protection and confinement, stability and disruption. Through casting, subtraction, repetition and accumulation, Suzić explores the ways identity is shaped by pressure, limitation and adaptation.
Across his practice, familiar objects and bodily associations are transformed into ambiguous sculptural situations in which permanence and fragility coexist. His works frequently remain suspended between completion and instability, treating uncertainty not as something to resolve, but as a productive condition from which new forms and meanings can emerge.

Artist Statement / Practice
Suzić’s practice begins with psychological tension and bodily experience. Feelings of insecurity, repression, vulnerability and not belonging are translated into sculptural forms that appear simultaneously soft and rigid, familiar and unsettling, controlled and close to collapse.
Material is central to this process. Plaster, wood, metal, concrete and stone are used not simply as formal elements, but as opposing physical conditions through which pressure, resistance and adaptation become visible. Smooth organic forms are often compressed within rigid structures, creating situations in which protection can become restriction and stability can begin to resemble confinement.
Processes of casting, accumulation, subtraction and repetition allow Suzić to transform bodily associations, childhood references and everyday fragments into sculptural traces. Rather than resolving these forms into fixed narratives, he allows them to remain unstable and open, occupying the space between identity as something constructed and identity as something still in formation.
