ARTIST STATEMENT

I turn to the topic of folklore traditions of various cultures, legends, myths, fairy tales in an attempt to identify the constantly changing collectivity, where it comes from and what types and contexts it can acquire. Such an appeal to archaic forms of collectivity and their imagery is a means to form a new type of hybrid community that will be able to respond to modern reality by transforming along with it. The main method of my workis based on creating communication through interpenetration, collision, and saturation with different cultural contexts and discourses. An interestin other cultures and contexts provides an understanding of how to expand one's views on reality, look at it differently and show possible vanishing points when different cultural paradigms collide. This is how one forms one’s own model of protected existence – from physical deathand time, as well as the search for one’s place as an artist in contemporary art through turning to primary folklore forms. Thanks to the fact that we exist in the world of network structures, a symbiosis of traditional and digital art appears in my practice.

My artistic practice involves a combination of the classical school of icon painting and modern visual language. In the process of working on projects, artifacts are created that refer to transcultural aesthetics - cross-cutting elements inherent in different cultures and performing a similar function. Color is an important formal and compositional tool. Through symbolically loaded artifacts, a certain color and themes, the plot,characters and the action itself are constructed.
