MAKO LOMADZE

Mako Lomadze is a contemporary artist from Georgia, holding both a bachelor's and master's degree in fine arts from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Based in Tbilisi, she regularly participates in local and international exhibitions and residencies.

Her works are included in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cosenza and private collections across Europe, Canada, and the United States. Primarily working with oil paint, she draws inspiration from internal dialogue, subconscious issues, dreams, and her worldview, infusing her art with rich symbolism.

Lomadze aims to evoke deeper understanding and exploration of her works through a visually accessible language that transcends initial impressions. Her art often embodies a dreamy quality, characterized by ambiguous, non-descriptive elements and a reflection on the tragic aspects of existence.

Her series frequently include self-portraits that explore themes of self-reflection and identity, revealing the essence of the true self amidst isolation. Additionally, her work comments on the role of women in contemporary society. Mako employs various methods, including thematic research and reflexive actions rooted in the subconscious, to inform her artistic practice.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The foundation of my creative process stems from an internal dialogue that grapples with critical subconscious issues, dreams, and my perspectives on the world. My works are infused with vivid colors, symbolism, and dynamism, aiming to captivate viewers and inspire a deeper exploration of their meanings. I strive to convey my ideas through a visual language that appears straightforward yet reveals layers that diverge from initial impressions.

Ultimately, my approach reflects a complex interplay with various themes, encouraging a thoughtful engagement with each piece. Art, for me, is a journey of discovery—both for myself and for those who experience my work.
