BIO

Pavel Golovkin (b. 1988, Moscow) is a visual artist based in Tallinn, Estonia.
He graduated from Moscow State Bauman University in 2011.
Pavel began his professional journey in 2007 as a freelance photographer, contributing to news agencies and magazines such as Forbes, NewsWeek, Rolling Stone, and Geo. In 2009, he completed an internship in photography at the Associated Press (AP) news agency, where he later worked as a staff photographer from 2013 to 2023, covering global news and major sports events.
In 2020, Pavel began exploring visual art alongside his work in photojournalism, launching his first project, Please Keep Social Distance.
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Pavel relocated with his family, first to Berlin and later to Tallinn, where he established a new chapter in his artistic career.
Since 2024, Pavel has devoted himself entirely to visual art, creating notable projects such as Fantastic Beasts and completing the Cities series. His work has been recognized in several international awards, affirming his growing presence in the contemporary art scene.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I explore visual and semantic connections between subjects using photography to create new worlds.
My work invites viewers to reconnect with their feelings and reflect
on relationship with the natural and urban environments around them. The Earth can endure without us, but if we wish to remain as guests, we have to care about nature and future.
It's about creation, not destruction, and embracing harmony over conflict.
During my years in photojournalism, I witnessed destruction, conflicts, and injustice. The camera often served as a filter, shielding me from the harshness of the world.
Now, I create worlds where one can find solace — beautiful, peaceful, and harmonious. New realities offer a vision of the serenity and beauty we yearn for in our dreams.
I believe that art moves the world forward as much as science.
Both are essential in shaping our future and lead us toward our shared global goal: the exploration and understanding of the Space.
